Online interactive sound piece
2024
How does water vapour get condensed [Cómo se condensa el vapor de agua] is an interactive sound artwork, comprising eight audio tracks which makes use of the respiratory system to represent the various uses, transformations, and transfers of water vapour within urban and industrial environments.
Generating a symbolic relationship between body and machine –in which industry transforms water and steam into resources in a similar way human body does– this project makes use of the voice and the oral transmission of knowledge as poetic and political tools to question the submission relations existing within the urban context and the extractivist narratives produced by the constant transformation of natural resources into quantifiable, productive, and consumable materials.
You can listen a teaser of the artwork by activating the volume of the video above this text.
You can also visit the website of the project to listen the complete sound piece.
Each of the eight audio tracks is the result of a series of collective long-duration breathing exercises, based on performative experiments that explored the limits of the rib cage, the interstices of speech and the different states of water, among others.
Each audio track in the digital sound piece has a different duration and is played in loop. This, together with the possibility of the listener to decide the presence of each track, generates random compositions and customisable sound experiences.
