In Ya no baila la luz en mi sonrisa. Capítulo III: Communio
Curated by Beatriz Escudero
Ana Mas Projects. L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona, Spain)
The current cloud nomenclature, that depicts the height, shape and density of each cloud, was established in the early 19th century by the definition of 27 kinds of clouds. Each kind has a symbol associated. Nowadays, those symbols are still in use in weather forecasts and aviation reports.
Having in mind that whatever element that cannot be caught by our hands can be ‘possessed’ by imposing ontological limits –in other words, by naming it– this photographic series selects 3 of the 27 symbols and tries to interpret them manually, to embody those clouds and, eventually, metaphorically captures them.
The installation of each photograph corresponds to the height of each of the clouds the hands represent. The photograph of the left represents a low cloud (usually based less than 2 kilometers above ground). The central picture depicts a medium-height cloud (formed from 2 to 7 kilometers of altitude) and the one on the right represents a high- altitude cloud (formed in the highest and coldest region of the troposphere from about 5 to 12 kilometers high).
